Index to land surveys from the Virginia Land Office, 1779-1924.

These records consist of an index to survey books kept by the Land Office. Surveys which were returned to the office after it came under the auspices of the secretary of the commonwealth and the Virginia State Library have not been indexed. Each of the volumes is indexed separately with all surnames beginning with a specific initial being listed before those of the next initial from the same volume. In columns under the identification for each volume are the name of the person for whom the survey was returned (not necessarily the same as the grantee), the number of acres in the tract, and the page on which the document is recorded. Names are entered in the order in which they appear in each volume.
